Spivey Hall is a musical institution renowned for its perfect acoustics and expansive musical program. Part of the Clayton State University at Georgia, the venue approached us with the goal of revamping their presence online.
As a music venue, events are at the core of the property, requiring a great deal of attention to how visitors find, explore and purchase tickets for events. With this in mind, Spivey Hall’s must-have list included:
- Fast, simple and elegant site
- Flexible events CMS to add content, visuals, and multimedia
- Integration with ticketing system
- Search, sort, filter of events
- ADA compliant with WCAG2.1 implementation
- Fully mobile friendly
- Flexible CMS to add static content
- Social media integration, sharing, calendaring and third-party promotional features
This is how we did it.
First sketch.
Designing the ideal interface for an event-driven platform started with a challenge: deliver a lot of content, fast and engaging.
Concept 1
We designed a single-page style landing focusing purely on events. In this concept, events overlap forming a connectivity flowing vertically.
Concept 2
The first concept started a vigorous conversation with the client on what to prioritize in the design. The result was a completely different concept.
Concept 3
The design was simplified integrating elements from the first concept. Events are still the central part, but now the layout is more sectioned and flat.
Final Mockup
The signed-off design implemented stronger colors, simpler navigation and a fluid section stacking that works with 3 or 50 events on the front page.

Despite the complexity, size and requirements of the spiveyhall.org system, the end product scores at the top 3% of all tested sites online for page loading speed, core vitals, SEO and content structure.

Nothing is left to chance. From how we code, how assets are organized, how resources are utilized.
